You may have heard that Inter-Lakes Elementary School is a Targeted Title I school, but what does that actually mean?
What Is a Targeted Title I School?
The New Hampshire Department of Education identifies schools eligible for targeted Title I funds based on concentrations of students experiencing economic disadvantage, primarily measured by the number of students eligible for free or reduced-price lunch. The percentage of economically disadvantaged students at ILES was 33.33% last school year; the state average was 25.8%.
Because of this, Inter-Lakes Elementary School receives federal funding through a program called Title I. This additional funding helps us provide extra academic support in reading and math to learners in grades K–3 who need it. These funds also help us hire and train teachers and paraeducators who work directly with students to strengthen foundational skills.
Being a Title I school means we are able to offer more targeted instruction, additional support staff, and increased opportunities for students who benefit from extra help. Most importantly, it allows us to ensure that all students have the support they need to grow as confident, capable learners.
What this means for your child:
Not all students receive Title I services; some students receive extra support based on their learning needs. Support is focused on specific skills. Services may change over time as students grow and improve. Some students need targeted support in math, in reading, or in both areas.
How Are Students Selected?
Students are selected for extra support based on classroom performance and assessment results. This helps us make sure students get the right support at the right time.
What Does Extra Support Look Like?
Students who qualify for Title I support may receive small group or one-on-one instruction, and have extra time to practice reading or math skills. Students receive support from a specialized teacher or paraeducator. These supports happen during the school day and are designed to build confidence and skills.
